Welcome to First Presbyterian Church!
Are you looking for a community in which you (and your family) can nurture your faith and grow spiritually? You may have just found it!
First Presbyterian Church has been a caring community of faith in Urbana, OH for more than 120 years. Each Sunday we gather together to worship and celebrate what God has done, is doing, and will do in our lives and in this world through the person of Jesus Christ.
We also offer worship, education, service, and fellowship opportunities throughout the week, and you are invited to join us! We would love to meet you and tell you more about what we are doing to grow ourselves, and others, to be better Christians.
We believe that each person has been uniquely called to be part of what God is doing in this world, both here in Urbana and around the globe. This is why we have a number of different ministries and missions to address these various needs – everything from our mid-week youth program to supporting the Caring Kitchen.
We are a community of people on a journey of faith, discovering what it means to trust and follow after Jesus on a daily basis. At the same time we are learning how to encourage, support, and care for each other along the way. Is this something you feel God might be calling you to try? We hope so. Come and join us sometime soon.
WHAT IS WORSHIP LIKE?
Our typical weekly worship services have a traditional format with some modern components. We sing hymns and songs written throughout the history of the Church, including ancient and contemporary music. Our organist/pianist accompanies us as we sing our faith, and our choir adds to the beauty of our worship through various anthems and responses. On the first Sunday of the month, all are welcome to receive communion.
WHAT ARE THE MESSAGES LIKE?
At First Presbyterian Church, we strive to communicate the good news of Christ in meaningful ways. Each sermon is based on a passage from the Old or New Testament and interpreted in a way that is encouraging to listeners and relevant to present-day concerns. A typical message is approximately 15 minutes.
WHERE DO I TAKE MY KIDS?
For children 4 and younger, we have childcare available in our nursery area beginning at 9:30 am. (Just follow the signs when you come through the west entrance.) We have Sunday School classes for children 5 and up from 9:30 – 10:20.
Beginning at 10:25 am, children 5 and up join us in the sanctuary until the Time with Children, after which they are invited to participate in Children’s Church.
Middle School and High School students are invited to participate fully in our regular worship services.
WHAT DO I WEAR?
You’re invited to come just as you are. You’ll see folks wearing everything from jeans to shorts and flip-flops to a suit, so you will fit in no matter what.
WHERE DO I FIND MORE INFORMATION WHEN I ARRIVE?
When you visit, there will be several people wearing pins that say either “Elder” or Deacon.” They can help you with any questions you may have. You are also invited to talk to the pastor either before or after worship.
If you would like more information, feel free to call us (937) 653-4225 or email Reverend Beau Brown at firstname.lastname@example.org.
